The Most Admired Healthcare Leader Making a Difference – 2025

Dr. David Ajibade: The Visionary Leader Healing with a New Perspective

What if one of the most powerful tools for healing wasn’t a complex drug, but something already inside us, just waiting to be unlocked? What if nourishing the body’s own incredible ability to repair itself was the missing piece in treating some of the world’s most challenging diseases? For Dr. David Ajibade, these aren’t just questions; they are the foundation of a revolutionary approach to healthcare that is changing thousands of lives. As the founder of the Brain and Body Foundation, Dr. Ajibade is a leader who bridges continents, disciplines, and perspectives to bring hope and healing where it’s needed most. For his groundbreaking work and his unwavering dedication, The Influential Today Magazine is proud to honor Dr. David Ajibade as The Most Admired Healthcare Leader Making a Difference for 2025.

A Path He Had to Create for Himself

Like many doctors, Dr. Ajibade’s journey into medicine started early, but with a charming twist. “Hahaha. That was my mother’s fault,” he laughs. “She convinced me when I was just five to become a doctor.” While his mother planted the seed, it fell on fertile ground. Dr. Ajibade had a natural love for science, especially biology, and was fascinated by history, psychology, and the incredible potential of the human brain. Medicine felt like a perfect fit.

However, he quickly realized that the traditional path wasn’t going to be enough for him. His unique combination of interests called for a different approach. “I would realize I had to create the field of medicine that would truly draw upon my talents, interests and expertise,” he explains. “I am still creating it.” This drive to forge his own path, inspired by figures like neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson, set the stage for a career defined by innovation and a relentless search for better answers.

A World of Perspective

One of the defining features of Dr. Ajibade’s work is his global perspective, shaped by his experiences working in both Nigeria and the United States. This dual vantage point gave him a unique lens through which to view healthcare. “The answer, in one word is…perspective,” he says. “It has helped me to see things from different angles and to notice things others may not notice.”

For example, he observed that certain diseases were more common among Black populations than Caucasian ones. This didn’t just become a statistic for him; it became a quest. His curiosity sent him searching for answers, leading to discoveries that were far from mainstream. This ability to connect dots across different cultures and health systems has been central to his success. It has also allowed him to build powerful, diverse partnerships, from collaborating with the Lagos State government on sickle cell research in Nigeria to working with organizations like Embrace Kids in the U.S. to raise funds and awareness.

A Foundation Born from Urgent Need

The Brain and Body Foundation wasn’t born in a boardroom; it was born from a pressing, real-world need. Dr. Ajibade saw countless families, especially those with low incomes, struggling to care for children with brain disorders. They couldn’t afford the high costs of treatment, and he knew there were effective, nutrient-based solutions that could help. “I knew there were things that could help, so we decided to act,” he says.

The foundation was also a practical solution to a logistical problem. Many U.S. companies were willing to donate the very supplements and nutraceuticals he needed, but they required a tax-exempt charity to do so. So, in June 2015, he established the Brain and Body Foundation in both the U.S. and Nigeria. Today, its mission is clear: to use science-backed, research-based care to support people with brain disorders and chronic illnesses. They do this through free clinical consultations, education, research, and outreach, with a core belief that targeted nourishment can help the body heal itself.

The Game-Changing Discovery for Sickle Cell Disease

Perhaps one of the most powerful stories of Dr. Ajibade’s work is his groundbreaking research on sickle cell disease (SCD). The discovery came, as many great innovations do, from a place of desperation. The foundation was using expensive supplements like Alovea Immun, donated by Sam and Linda Caster of Mannarelief, and Omega-3s, generously donated by Dr. Barry Sears of Zone Labs, to treat children with SCD. While effective, Dr. Ajibade knew this wasn’t a sustainable solution for the long term.

He began looking for cheaper, more accessible options. His research led him to the immune system. “We found out that improving immune function could help children with SCD,” he recalls. Knowing that vitamin D3 was a proven immune booster, he decided to try it. “And the results were remarkable,” he says. This breakthrough led to the development of Citamil, a combination of vitamin D3, zinc, and vitamin C. To date, the foundation has distributed these supplements to over 6,000 children, and the positive responses have been overwhelming. This success has not only changed lives but has also elevated the foundation’s status, leading to publications in international journals and bringing much-needed attention to the power of nutrient therapy.

The “Missing Link” in Modern Medicine

At the heart of Dr. Ajibade’s philosophy is the belief that nutraceuticals and nutrient therapy are the “missing link” in healthcare today. He sees countless treatments that are ineffective or cause more problems simply because they neglect the fundamental need to nourish and support the brain and body. “It’s baffling to me that this isn’t being given more prominence,” he says.

His approach is unique: he and his foundation use supplements and nutrients exclusively. “We do not use medications,” he clarifies. “If the medications are needed, we partner with the medical field.” The goal isn’t to replace traditional medicine but to complement it by tapping into the body’s innate potential to heal. “We’re not claiming that our supplements heal,” he explains. “But what they do is that they enhance the body’s ability to repair and heal… Many times the body is trying to fix a problem, but it lacks the environment, it lacks the tools, it lacks the energy to do so. And so we just provide those things.”

Taking Health Directly to the People

Dr. Ajibade is not just an innovator in the clinic; he’s also a pioneer in public health education. Long before Zoom became a household name, he was hosting health education webinars in the United States. When he returned to Nigeria, he looked for a way to reach the largest possible audience, which led him to create Africa’s top-rated health program, “Your Health in Your Hands.” For over seven years, his award-winning show on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) has been empowering millions with clear, actionable information to take control of their health. The impact has been enormous, with countless viewers telling him they’ve changed their habits and seen their health improve as a result.

The Heart of a True Leader

Recognized as Nigeria’s Most Respected CEO for 2023, Dr. Ajibade believes effective leadership comes down to a few key things: a clear vision, the courage to fill a gap, and the ability to inspire others to join your cause. But he adds one crucial ingredient that can’t be taught in business school. “One must really, really care,” he insists. “Without this, he or she would not have the staying power to carry over in tough times.”

That staying power has been essential, especially when facing his biggest challenge: funding. He is candid about the struggle to get support for nutrient-based research, which often lacks the high return on investment that attracts large pharmaceutical funders. Despite this, his deep sense of care and conviction has allowed him to persevere and prove what’s possible.

Looking to the future, Dr. Ajibade is most excited about breakthroughs in nutraceuticals, like peptides. Why? Because they are safe, require no electricity for storage, and need no special technology to use, making them perfect, accessible solutions for developing countries. It’s a vision that is both innovative and deeply practical.

Dr. David Ajibade’s story is a powerful testament to what one person can achieve with a new perspective, a creative mind, and a heart dedicated to serving others. He hopes his journey inspires everyone in medicine to see the huge upside of incorporating nutrients into their practice. He remains hopeful, and because of his work, so do thousands of others.
